early morning laughter and chats on the dewy back patio steps

warm snuggly hugs with the kids on the kitchen floor

watching the kids attempt to teach the puppy a silly trick

listening for the few remaining made up words from my youngest

jotting down silly… and a bit sassy remarks from my oldest

kitchen dance parties while cooking for breakfast for dinner

silly shrieks at summer camp pickup when the puppy tags along

snow cones and sticky tables

sitting in the shadows of the trees eating popsicles in the backyard

the comical and uncoordinated froggy leaps into the pool

the 483rd underwater handstand

the “watch this mom” x three hundred and ninety thousand

melting ice cream poolside

a crisp cold Diet Coke

Barbies, bubbles and baths

the puppy running amok with a scavenged sock

chocolate cake just because it’s Tuesday

road trips to visit grandparents and new baby cousins

5pm movies at NorthPark

devouring strawberries that smell of sunshine

picking out the silliest chapter book series

finding new adventures in the pile of library books

replenishing closets with clothes that feel cozy and comfortable for changing bodies

Summer often feels forever away and then gone in the blink of an eye. I can often feel overwhelmed by my to-do list and incredibly overstimulated by ALL the things and wish a moment to speed along. Note I simultaneously am grieving the passing of that exact same moment. Motherhood. It’s a whirl of emotions and is often stretching me in ways that I never imagined. Taking time to sit down and note little moments throughout the week that I loved helps shift the narrative and cultivates a sense of gratitude and longing for future simple moments that otherwise I may miss entirely. I’ll be honest - my mom guilt was HIGH this week, but upon reflection I see that our week was just as it should be: slow, yet full of laughs, silly little “I love you’s.”
